Crowns and bridges
You can either be treated by use of removable dental prostheses or by fixed restorations (crowns and bridges).
These are fitted on natural teeth or supported by implants. A crown can be placed when only one tooth is missing. Are there more teeth or molars missing, you will receive a bridge, which is also a fixed replacement.
Is a bridge placed on implants, you will keep your own facial features.
Implants
If you are in good health and your jawbone is suitable, you could be a candidate for implants. Implants are artificial roots. These are mainly manufactured from titanium and form the basis of a crown or bridge. The artificial roots are imbedded or screwed in the jawbone. These then grow into the bone. Because bone grows slowly, an implant may never immediately be subject to great chewing force.
Bridge
A bridge replaces several missing teeth and can be placed on two or more implants. This can be a substitute for the old-fashioned removable prosthesis.
Bonded bridge
The bonded bridge is mainly applicable if only one tooth or molar is missing and the anchoring teeth are still pristine. Bonded bridges are also known as sticky bridges. This type of bridge is a tooth with wings that are fixed to the back of the adjacent teeth.
All-ceramic crowns
All-ceramic crowns can make existing teeth more beautiful. A ceramic crown is the best solution for damaged teeth or molars or teeth or molars of poor quality. An implant in combination with a ceramic crown can be placed when the root as well as the tooth is damaged. This combination is an exact replica of a real tooth and root, which gives people who have lost a tooth during for instance a sporting event the ability to quickly resume their former eating habits and active lifestyle.
Defining colour
An intensive cooperation between the dentist and the dental laboratory guarantees an optimal cosmetic result. Defining the colour is up to the dental technician who makes the crown or bridge. By implementing new techniques crowns and bridges can be completely manufactured from tooth resembling material.
Combinations
In some cases it is not possible to fully restore the ability to chew by means of a number of bridges. We can than use a combination of a bridge with a partial prosthesis.
Removable prosthesis
Removable prostheses are undetached constructions, also known as dentures. There are several techniques to slightly fix a prosthesis, such as a click-construction. In this construction the denture remains removable but doesn't fall out immediately.
Complete prosthesis
The complete prosthesis are the classical false teeth. The prosthesis rests completely on the mucous membrane. She is used to restore chewing function of the completely toothless patient.
Partial prosthetic
For partial prosthetics usually a metal frame of a precious metal is used on which the toothless areas are filled with synthetic resin. This is called a frame prosthesis. These are less extensive and fit better in the mouth than full dentures.
Overall prosthesis
When roots of a few good teeth can be saved, these can serve as aid or point of attachment under a prosthesis. This is called an overall prosthesis.
